IT Audit and IT Strategy

Information Technology is playing an ever greater role in even the smallest organisations and groups, and we are relying on computers more than ever before. But most organisations have a pool of computers and hardware that has grown organically - and frequently doesn't meet the needs of the group, often even causing more work than providing help. IT support staff or volunteers are often overworked and undervalued, lacking the time and support to work out a plan of how to improve IT provision.

An audit identifies which parts of your IT provision is causing bottlenecks and unnecessary demands on your IT support people. It can help you to explore alternatives to the current setup without having to spend much needed budget on new hardware and complicated networks. An audit can also go beyond the machines and include your human staff:
what experiences and relationships do your staff currently have with their computers? Do these experiences hinder your staff in their work, or help them?
what does your staff really want from their IT systems?
can your computers and network help your staff to work more comfortably and efficiently?
Because, at the end of the day, computers are there to help you do your job.

A Strategy goes a step further, and defines how your IT services supports your organisation in acheiving its aims not just now, but in the future. Our trained facilitators can consult with your staff to find out exactly how IT can help them do their job better, and help you to work out how your IT resources may need to change and grow.

Putting some thought into how your IT needs are currently, and how they may change over the next few years can save you not only money, but lots of time too. If you are considering hardware or software upgrades then you should be carrying out an audit and developing a strategy before you make those changes.

If you are considering adopting Free & Open Source Software we can audit your current software and hardware, as well as your current and future requirements. This will provide the basis for advice on Free & Open Source Software migration routes and options available to you, as well as a breakdown of costs and savings for the various options.
